The spell of good weather continues, it was even nicer today than it was over the weekend. True to form Ireland once again experiences an ‘Indian summer’. So I went fishing!

It is rare that you get a very good forecast for the end of the trout season, the last weekend in September. Off to Lough Mask to see if we could tempt any monster brown trout!

I was given a half day today and with a light breeze there was always only going to be one way that I was going to spend it. Off into Connemara with the kayak and fishing gear!

With just a few days left before returning to college the wind decided to finally die for a couple of days which gave a rare opportunity to launch on glassy seas.

I have had only one go at the hounds this year and that was from a charter, a far cry from a kayak! That fact had to be rectified and what better time to do it than on a bank holiday?

I managed to get out and have another look at the river this weekend, in the hopes that some silver had started moving in. A glorious morning had to capitalised on so I headed into the countryside.

With the wind still blowing hard I decided that the best option would be to stay inland and find sheltered water. Local knowledge told me that roach are amassing in large numbers, getting ready for their spawning run.

With the spring weather returning the in form of strong winds and showers it was time to beat a hasty retreat to some sheltered freshwater ponds. Just an excuse to get out for a couple of casts.

I really cannot get over how good the weather is at the moment. Galway is getting weather that would not disappoint during the summer, never mind the spring! Long may it last.
