With all exams officially finished it was time to get back to doing what I love doing. The Galway weather was glorious this evening and it made for a glassy sea on the bay.

After having such fun the previous day I decided to go back for more. The fish had nit yet spawned and I knew there was a chance of a real monster over the next couple of days.

St. Patrick’s Day used to be a three day session but for quite a good few years I have made the point of foregoing the nonsense and getting afloat instead.

I had not been afloat for a couple of weeks before today. Very high winds have lashed the west coast of Ireland as one storm follows another. The stormy weather also brought with it the birth of my son.

Getting afloat on a Wednesday seems to be becoming a bit of a habit for me. Conditions looked good and the weather was fine so why not? That was all the encouragement I needed!

Anglers have to be the eternal optimists, I can’t think of any other reason for subjecting ourselves to deplorable weather and temperatures in the hopes of finding a monster.

The spell of good weather continues, it was even nicer today than it was over the weekend. True to form Ireland once again experiences an ‘Indian summer’. So I went fishing!

It is rare that you get a very good forecast for the end of the trout season, the last weekend in September. Off to Lough Mask to see if we could tempt any monster brown trout!
