The weather has been disastrous for kayak fishing for the last week or so. Next week looks like more of the same. This always happens when you get a couple of weeks free from responsibilities.

The festive season has been and passed. Exams are off the agenda for a considerable length of time. I suddenly have a bit of spare time on my hands. What am I going to do?

So back I was looking at the Shannon again. I wanted to take advantage of a flat calm river and try to target a small pier for conger, convinced that the area might shelter one or two.

A surprise day free of lectures was only ever going to spent one way. You guessed it! Kayak fishing! A dash to the east coast was very much on the cards.

An unusually sunny September evening had to be capitalised on and there was only ever going to be one way to do that; kayak fishing. Today I had company on the water.

The new college timetable was seen today. It has good and bad aspects to it. It does allow for a kayak fishing session on Mondays which is a good start. Some of the other days look promising too!

With the summer drawing to a close it was time to travel back to Galway. College recommences next week and that signals the end of the summer’s transient existence.

This summer is going to see a very transient existence for myself, being spread between counties Clare, Galway, Dublin and Wicklow in the main. It gives me an opportunity to fish a wide range of areas which will be both a blessing and a curse………
