With the wind still blowing hard I decided that the best option would be to stay inland and find sheltered water. Local knowledge told me that roach are amassing in large numbers, getting ready for their spawning run.

With the spring weather returning the in form of strong winds and showers it was time to beat a hasty retreat to some sheltered freshwater ponds. Just an excuse to get out for a couple of casts.

I really cannot get over how good the weather is at the moment. Galway is getting weather that would not disappoint during the summer, never mind the spring! Long may it last.

The last trip out couldn’t see me find any fish and the trip out the other day saw me confined to sheltered ponds. Today was another glorious spring day in Galway and I wanted to spend some of it on the bay.

Wind forecasts of thirty knots kept me off the sea this afternoon and I decided to have a look at some small lakes closer to ‘home’. Well sheltered, they are a safe bet in windy weather.

Saturday was a beautiful day but to avoid a Valentine’s Day massacre I stalled the fishing plans for the weekend until Sunday. Saturday would have been a lot drier.

I am eagerly awaiting the lengthening days. It seems that since Christmas my fishing time has been limited. I did manage to get out on Sunday though…….

I headed back to the east coast for the weekend. Fishing was on the agenda but not in the conventional form. I was on the lookout for a new ‘fishing wagon’.

Calm conditions have, in typical fashion, coincided with starting a job! I still managed to get a short stint on the water a couple of days ago even if the fish didn’t want to come out to play.

Even the very brave and the very stupid would not attempt launching a kayak in the current weather and swells we are experiencing. So what’s the alternative?
