It started on Thursday, a message came through asking if I’d like to head out for a beach session on Friday night. It wouldn’t be like me to say I didn’t want to go fishing!
It was very cold last night when I was packing the car and I knew this morning was going to be no different. Still, I wasn’t going to miss an opportunity so like a lunatic, off I went.
We headed off this morning without checking the tide. On reaching the top of the hill I could see that it was very much out so we turned around and went into town for a some shopping instead.
The weekend had landed and I had hoped to get out yesterday but a combination of a late start and some heavy fog kept me off the water so I went for a family hike instead only for the fog to lift soon afterwards!
Today was a typically Irish January day except for the temperatures which hit 14°C, a big change from just a couple of days ago when the heavy frost had descended.
I have been doing a few shore sessions recently. With weather and time constraints it was impossible to get the kayak out so the next option was to fish from the shore.
I have not known a summer like it for wind. It has made getting out on the kayak difficult and has resulted in a situation where whatever chances present themselves just have to be taken.
With a couple of hours to spare before visitors landed for the week I decided to spend the time on the water. With the tide against me I headed for deeper water.
