I managed to get out and have another look at the river this weekend, in the hopes that some silver had started moving in. A glorious morning had to capitalised on so I headed into the countryside.

With the wind still blowing hard I decided that the best option would be to stay inland and find sheltered water. Local knowledge told me that roach are amassing in large numbers, getting ready for their spawning run.

The last week was a real treat in terms of the glorious weather that smiled down upon us. It’s rare that we get a dose of summer weather in April in Ireland, never mind Galway!

Calm conditions have, in typical fashion, coincided with starting a job! I still managed to get a short stint on the water a couple of days ago even if the fish didn’t want to come out to play.

With a busy weekend where a lot had to be attended to I made sure that I had a couple of hours to fish a river on the way back home this afternoon.

So back I was looking at the Shannon again. I wanted to take advantage of a flat calm river and try to target a small pier for conger, convinced that the area might shelter one or two.

A surprise day free of lectures was only ever going to spent one way. You guessed it! Kayak fishing! A dash to the east coast was very much on the cards.

There is a spot that I am very fond of for its sheer beauty. Way out west, it features a beach framed with dunes and the finest sand. Crystal clear water breaks onto the crescent shaped utopia. It was here we headed for today.

After the fun I had on Monday evening I decided to try and get back out there for another go. I figured that high water might be a better option on this mark and there was only one way to find out.

With the exams finally over and after a couple of days spent travelling home and catching up with friends and family, it was time to get out for some much anticipated fishing.
