The spell of good weather continues, it was even nicer today than it was over the weekend. True to form Ireland once again experiences an ‘Indian summer’. So I went fishing!

It is rare that you get a very good forecast for the end of the trout season, the last weekend in September. Off to Lough Mask to see if we could tempt any monster brown trout!

I was given a half day today and with a light breeze there was always only going to be one way that I was going to spend it. Off into Connemara with the kayak and fishing gear!

The curtain has closed on the inaugural Irish Kayak Fishing Open. A first of it’s kind event in the country, a lot of work was put into creating and running this event.

I have had only one go at the hounds this year and that was from a charter, a far cry from a kayak! That fact had to be rectified and what better time to do it than on a bank holiday?

I have been working tirelessly over the past few weeks in an effort to help bring a major kayak fishing event to Ireland. These efforts have also kept me away from the water for a while.

I managed to get out and have another look at the river this weekend, in the hopes that some silver had started moving in. A glorious morning had to capitalised on so I headed into the countryside.

With the wind still blowing hard I decided that the best option would be to stay inland and find sheltered water. Local knowledge told me that roach are amassing in large numbers, getting ready for their spawning run.
